Scenic River Tours
Rafting does not have to be wild and crazy in a turbulent river environment to be fun. In fact, lots of folks prefer a nice easy drift down a lazy river watching the trees and wildlife and rock formations that the ice age left with us, just relaxing and taking it easy. Many different types of birds along with Deer, Moose, River Otters, Beavers, Black Bear, and other critters call this their home and you just might run into one of them. Don't worry they will stay out of your way as much as possible. The Au Train Song Bird trail runs by the Au Train River and is a great place to see migrating songbirds in the seasonal migrations. The river is such a quiet place. Be still and all you hear is the wind in the trees and the water spilling over a rock ,or maybe the splash of a Beavers tail or Trout high jumping for insects. It is a great place to reflect in nature and be one with the environment around you. Stop on an island for lunch and take a little nap. Nothing is in a hurry out here.
Our Scenic River Tours run from mid April until October. Some years the water level is better than others but generally the spring months hold more water in our rivers unless summer and fall sometime brings more rains and the drainage of the Upper Peninsula highlands keeps the rivers flowing well into the fall months. The ride is very comfortable and is great for children, special children, seniors and anyone that might not feel very comfortable in a canoe or kayak.
The cost for guided tours on the Escanaba, Michigamme, and Au Train Rivers is $50 per person with a 6 person minimum or $300. The tours generally take about 4-5 hours to complete including transport to the rivers and back. Pets are welcome as long as all parties agree to having them along. Babies are not recommended.
